Tracking Code 252-118Job Description Lord Fairfax Community College seeks a full-time Police Sergeant for the Fauquier campus, reporting to the Chief of Police. Responsibilities include supervising daily activities of police and security officers at the Fauquier Campus along with patrolling all areas of the campus to ensure the safety of all students, staff, faculty, visitors and facilities. Must be able to function mentally and physically under stress and emergency situations. Must be able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing. Must be able to plan, organize and direct enforcement activities to achieve goals and objectives of LFCC community. General working knowledge of statute enforcement, crisis management planning and considerable law enforcement, as well as security and safety concepts, principles, procedures and techniques. Considerable knowledge of customer service practices and principles. Must have the skills to handle firearms and operate a motor vehicle safely. Must have the ability to give oral and written instructions to react appropriately in routine and emergency situations. Must be able to gather information and write factual reports and to elicit compliance with policies, rules and regulations. Must never have been convicted of a felony or a crime involving moral turpitude. Must be willing to travel between multiple LFCC locations (including Warrenton and Luray) and work various shifts. This position ensures that all policies and procedures are followed in regards to conducting law enforcement work. Duties also involve patrolling assigned areas, traffic enforcement, accident reporting, and criminal investigations. Assignments are received from the campus police chief or other superiors and carried out using established policies and procedures. Officer must exercise quick, independent, and sound judgment and display initiative in applying work methods to emergency situations, which arise when a superior is not immediately available. Work requires dedication to public service often made difficult by emotional or physical stress of events. Officer is required to be available for all shifts. Campus police officers must pass a criminal background check, physical exam and are subject to applicable drug and alcohol testing policies. Specific vision abilities are required for this job and include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Required Skills Requirements:   Virginia DCJS Law Enforcement Officer Certification and high school diploma or GED are required for this position; completion of some college level course work is preferred Virginia DCJS General Instructor Certification Minimum of five years experience is required Applicants must be able to successfully qualify with the service weapon (initially and annually) and possess a valid Virginia driver's license with an acceptable driving record Ability to use computers and to monitor video surveillance equipment is a must Must be able to work flexible hours, including various shifts and holidays Applicant must have excellent written and verbal communication skills Must have the ability to assemble, analyze and evaluate information and data Able to stand for periods of time and able to occasionally lift and/or move up to 70 pounds Preferred Experience: Virginia DCJS Firearms Instructor Certification Taser Instructor Certification   Compensation and Benefits:   The minimum salary for the position is $32,619 per year, however, actual staring salary will commensurate with education and experience. The position is full time, classified and as such is eligible for the benefits package offered by the Commonwealth of Virginia for state agencies.
