Directs the operations of the Public Safety Department, develops, implements and administers policy and procedure to provide a secure and hazard-free environment for all persons and property associated with Hendrix College. Reports to the Executive Vice President of Finance and Chief Financial Officer.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Develop an annual training schedule and programs.
Assigns duties and responsibilities of all Public Safety staff.
Select and direct training of new personnel.
Perform scheduled performance evaluations, commend extraordinary conduct, correct/discipline inadequate or inappropriate conduct.
Provide reports of routine regular department activity and special reports of unique situations/occurrences.
Work closely with the Office of Student Affairs to ensure frequent and accurate communication, recommendations for action and planning programs which impact student life.
Evaluate, submit, and administer Public Safety budget. Recommend and execute budget items and adjustments to the EVP-CFO.
Evaluate and submit, regularly, reports of condition/needs of department equipment.
Administer motor vehicle registration and parking/traffic control programs. Develop policies and procedures for dealing with infractions of college regulations and civil law occurring on campus.
Oversee maintenance and operation of casualty prevention systems/equipment.
Develop and maintain procedures along with the required equipment and training to ensure Hendrix has an adequate emergency preparedness program.
Coordinate campus response plan/actions in an emergency situation.
Establish patrol and investigation procedures to effectively prevent and/or respond to criminal activity and assist and direct the implementation of those procedures.
Insure department compliance with statutory regulations relative to law enforcement activities.
Conduct/supervise special investigations of violations of criminal/civil law and infractions of College regulations which compromise security and safety of persons associated with the College, personal property and college owned property.
Provide guidance and assist in establishment and implementation of crime prevention programs and initiatives.
Recommend improvements, additions to and supervise installation of safety/fire/intrusion/security systems based on evaluation of campus activity and personal/ property protection requirements.
Act as principal College liaison for all security/police, fire and other city agencies with various authorities of jurisdiction and outside law enforcement agencies as necessary.
Direct fire safety inspections, supervise drills, detect code violations and hazardous conditions.
Submit required fire safety inspection reports and violation of fire policy notices for assessment of appropriate fines or judicial action.
Create and disseminate publications for fire safety awareness programs.
Represent the department at meetings and special events on campus and at other institutions.
Develop short and long term goals/objectives to insure highest standards of operations and services.
Maintain membership and represent the College in professional associations devoted to the advancement of security and safety objectives.
Render assistance/advice to other colleges and universities through sharing proven safety/security programs.
Other special/confidential assignments as directed.
Other duties as assigned.
Requirements and qualifications
Must have strong background and technical knowledge in public safety.
Must be able to command respect and cooperation from faculty, staff, students and administration.
Must be able to deal with complaints from faculty, staff, students and administration in a pleasant manner.
Must be able to develop and maintain a sense of loyalty and pride in your work through self discipline and positive affiliation with Hendrix College.
Must be dependable, punctual and have a good attendance record.
Duties require sufficient strength and physical dexterity to perform duties and responsibilities of this job. May require heavy lifting.
